There is nothing more soothing or peaceful as spinning! Come twist the day away spinning fibers as light as clouds, creating novelty yarns, or learning other new spinning techniques from our highly qualified staff.

 
 

TASTE OF SPINNING
2 Days $130
Saturday, January 10 & Sunday, January 11, 10-4pm

If you have always wanted to spin, have taught yourself a little, or haven’t spun for a while, this workshop will be just what you need to gain confidence and skill. We will start with a beautiful fleece, learn to card, spin, ply and set the twist. Then we will spin woolen and worsted yarns, some commercially prepared fibers and discuss wheel maintenance. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED. PLEASE WEAR OLD CLOTHES.

BEGINNING SPINNING ON A WHEEL
6 Sessions $155
Begins Thursday, January 15, 7-9:30pm
Dye day-Saturday, February 21, 10-3pm

Spider Woman taught the Navajo women to spin with a spindle made of lightning and turquoise. While we can't provide that kind of equipment, we can continue the tradition. Wool, greasy, clean and commercially processed is our fiber. The last class is an all day natural dye workshop. Women who are pregnant should take the dye class at a later time when they are not pregnant. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED.
PLEASE WEAR OLD CLOTHES.

WACKY ROLAGS
1 Session $40

Dig out your hand cards--we'll use them to create a crazy storm of rolags, using multiple fibers, multiple colors, and a handful of mix-ins! Use the results of class as samples for larger blending projects, or spin the rolags one after the other to create a unique, one-of-a-kind yarn. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED, FIBERS PROVIDED.
BRING HAND CARDS AND ANY FIBER THAT COULD USE A LITTLE MAKE OVER. BRING WHEEL OR SPINDLE.

DROP SPINDLE SPINNING

The “dreaded drop spindle” need not be feared at all. All it takes is a little practice and a sense of humor. Come use our spindles or bring your own. We’ll twist the night away.
ALL LEVELS WELCOME. USE OF SPINDLES AND FIBERS PROVIDED.

SPINNING FINE YARNS

If you always wanted to spin for lace or admired Russian lace shawls, this workshop will be just what you need to gain confidence and skill. You will learn to comb fiber for lace, spin commercial combed top into lace and gossamer yarn, spin, ply and finish yarns for Russian lace and gossamer shawls. You will learn to spin fine wool, alpaca and goat fibers. INTERMEDIATE SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED.

SPIN TO KNIT

If you want to use your handspun yarn and don’t know how to start this class is for you. Spin a cozy, warm woolen yarn with Maggie and knit a pair of cabled fingerless mitts with Roxana! BEGINNING SPINNING AND KNITTING SKILLS REQUIRED.

SPINNING 2

Now that you know what the knobs on your spinning wheel are for, is it time for another class? Spinning 2 will include such varied topics as t.p.i. (twists per inch), use of wool combs, Navajo plying and more. We will cover different techniques to give you more control over the size and twist of the yarn you spin. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. BRING YOUR WHEEL. FIBERS PROVIDED.

WILD AND CRAZY YARNS

Inspired by Jacyey Boggs…these bumps, beehives, halos, coils, cores and encasements are to die for! OMG! These are all wild wonderful and crazy yarns with the structural integrity you are looking for in your special projects. The samples are the proof of the pudding.
INTERMEDIATE SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. FIBERS PROVIDED. BRING ALL THE NORMAL SPINNING TOOLS (EVERYTHING) AND A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM!

SENSUOUS SILK SPINNING

Silk is called the “Queen of Textiles” for good reason. Nothing matches its shimmer, warmth and feel. Play with tussah and bombyx, noil and top and learn what makes this fiber so wonderful. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. BRING WHEEL, CARDERS AND LAZY KATE. FIBERS PROVIDED.

Rock Day Evening Spin-In, Knit-In & Potluck
Monday, January 5, 6:30-9:30pm
Come celebrate the New Year with a potluck knit in and spin in. All spinners and knitters are welcome. Just bring a dish to share and your own table service. Coffee, tea and sweets will be provided by Shuttles. Come one, come all! Rock Day or St. Distaff’s Day traditionally comes the day after Twelfth Night. This is the day spinners go back to work after Christmas.
