YOU CAN’T TELL A BRAID BY ITS COLOR
2 Sessions $75
Thursday, January 17 & 24, 7-9:30pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
We fall in love with those beautiful hand dyed braids and then are sometimes surprised when the yarn doesn’t meet our expectations. We will look at the way braids are dyed and how that affects the color play. Then we will spin the braids and see how many different looks you can get from one roving. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED.
FIBERS PROVIDED. BRING YOUR WHEEL & AT LEAST 4 BOBBINS.

DROP SPINDLE SPINNING
1 Session $45
Thursday, January 31, 7-9:30pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
The “dreaded drop spindle” need not be feared at all. All it takes is a little practice and a sense of humor. Come use our spindles or bring your own. We’ll twist the night away.
ALL LEVELS WELCOME. USE OF SPINDLES AND FIBERS PROVIDED.

BEGINNING SPINNING ON A WHEEL
6 Sessions $195
Begins Thursday, February 14, 7-9:30pm
Dye day-Saturday, March 23, 10-3pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
Spider Woman taught the Navajo women to spin with a spindle made of lightning and turquoise. While we can’t provide that kind of equipment, we can continue the tradition. Wool, greasy, clean and commercially processed is our fiber. The last class is an all day natural dye workshop. Women who are pregnant should take the dye class at a later time when they are not pregnant. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED.
PLEASE WEAR OLD CLOTHES.

ENGLISH LONGDRAW VS AMERICAN LONGDRAW
1 Session $45
Thursday, April 4, 7-9:30pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
What is the difference between English longdraw (double drafting) and American longdraw? It depends. We will spin wool and cotton both ways and you can see the difference between the two techniques and add another drafting method to your spinning repertoire. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. BRING YOUR WHEEL. FIBERS PROVIDED.

TO DO OR NOT DO WITH ALPACA
1 Session $45
Chris Switzer, instructor
Saturday, April 20, 1-4pm
This class will answer many of your questions about spinning alpaca and help you to plan a successful project. We will cover fiber preparation and discuss how using fleece, roving or a blend can affect your yarn. Then we will decide how the yarn should be spun, it all depends on how the yarn will be used. How much twist should be added and how many plies can vary depending on whether you are knitting, weaving or crocheting. INTERMEDIATE SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. BRING YOUR WHEEL AND ALL ITS PARTS AND A PROJECT YOU HAVE MADE FROM ALPACA, IF YOU HAVE ONE.

TWIST
1 Session $45
Thursday, April 25, 7-9:30pm
Maggie Casey, instructor
Yarn needs twist, without it we would just have fluff . The question is how much do we need and how much do we want? It depends! It all depends on how you are going to use your yarn; sock yarn needs more twist than yarn for a lace shawl. In this class we will practice controlling the amount of twist that goes into yarn so you can make the most
appropriate yarn for your project. We will spin several different fibers to see that twist is not a one size fits all proposition. BEGINNING SPINNING SKILLS REQUIRED. FIBERS PROVIDED. BRING YOUR WHEEL, LAZY KATE, WHORLS AND THREE BOBBINS.
